Slow Cooker Brown Ale Beef Stew

1 1/2-2 Lbs. Stew Meat
1/3 C. Flour
1 Tsp. Salt
1 Tsp. Pepper
2 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
1/3 C. Onion, Chopped
6 oz. Brown Ale
1 C. Beef Broth
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
3 Bay Leaves
2 Tsp. Garlic, Minced
2 Tsp. Sage, Dried
1 1/2 Tsp. Paprika
1 Tbsp. Sugar
1 C. Carrots, Sliced (Or whole baby carrots)
1 1/2-2 C. Potatoes, Diced

Toss stew meat in flour and sprinkle on salt and pepper. Heat oil in large saute pan and add meat. Cook until browned on all sides. After flipping meat to the other side, add onions and cook along with the meat. Meanwhile, mix together all ingredients except sugar, carrots and potatoes in slow cooker. Add meat and onions to the slow cooker. Cook on high for at least 3 hours or on low for at least 5 hours. 45 minutes before finishing, add sugar, carrots and potatoes. Remove some liquid mid cooking if needed to thicken the sauce. This can also be made on the stove top by letting cook in a large pot, covered, on medium low heat for approximately 3 hours.
