Easy Cherry Lemon Buckle Cake

1/2 c. butter (1 stick)
1/4 c. milk (I use almond milk)
1 package lemon cake mix
1/2 cherries, pitted and stems removed
1/4 c. sliced almonds
1/4 c. oats
1 tbsp. white sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add butter to square pan and place in oven until butter has melted. Mix in the milk and cake mix. Top with cherries. In a small bowl, combine almonds, oats and sugar. Sprinkle over the top of the batter and cherries. Bake in oven for 45-50 minutes, until top has become golden brown. Serve with a topping of whip cream (optional).
