Homemade Maraschino Cherries

1/2 Lb. Whole Cherries
1/2 C. Water
1/2 C. Sugar
1/2 C. Amaretto
Juice from 1/2 Lemon
1/4 Tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 Tsp. Vanilla Extract


Remove pits and stems from cherries. Combine water, sugar, amaretto, lemon juice, cinnamon and vanilla extract in a large skillet over high heat, bring to a boil. Reduce to low and simmer, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Add cherries and remove from heat. Let cool before putting in an air tight container (glass jar). Store in refrigerator.
