The Best Stovetop Mac N Cheese
8 oz. pasta shells, uncooked (or pasta shape of preference)
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 c. milk (I generally use unflavored plant based)
1/4 c. sour cream
2 c. shredded sharp cheddar
Cook pasta according to package instructions. Set aside. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add flour, salt and garlic powder and mix well. Cook until mixture is slightly brown, about 1 minute.
Add 1 cup of milk and whisk until smooth.
Add sour cream and whisk until smooth.
Cook on medium high heat until the mixture has thickened. Do not let boil.
Add cheese and whisk until the cheese has fully melted.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Add cooked pasta to the pan of cheese sauce and stir to completely coat the noodles evenly.
